Back in 1994, when the educational infrastructure was not so good, I was admitted to a hostel far away from home and I was just 6 years old. Hostel life in school had a significant impact on my life, shaping my personality, values, and outlook on the world. Living in a hostel often required me to adapt to a communal living environment, where I learned to share space and resources with others from diverse backgrounds. I value, appreciate and respect what my hostel life has taught me and it has very much to do with what I am today.

Some common experiences that my hostel life provided include

1. Building social skills: My hostel life often involved meeting new people from different cultures and backgrounds. This helped me develop the social skills, learn to communicate effectively, and build lasting friendships.

2. Developing independence: Living in a hostel also fostered independence and self-reliance and I learned to take care of myself in a new environment.

3. Learning to adapt: My hostel life was unpredictable, with new roommates and dynamic living situations. This helped me learn to adapt to new situations quickly and be more flexible in my approach to life.

4. Cultivating a sense of community: Hostel life created a strong sense of community, as I bonded over shared experiences and help each other through challenges.

5. Exposure to different perspectives: Living in a hostel exposed me to different perspectives and ways of life. It also broadened my horizons and help me develop a more open-minded approach to the world.

Overall, my hostel life was a transformative experience that shaped my personality, character and outlook on life.

If you ever had been in a hostel, kindly share your experiences in the comments section below.
